bling it on

| comments

Oh god my titles are just getting cheesier and cheesier and I can't do anything about it. I'm sorry.

But seriously, if you are looking at buyin' some Bling with a capital B then I would totally suggest Juicy Couture. I'm in love with their Fall 2012 Jewelry Collection, and I usually don't geek out over jewelry (I mean yeah I love sparkly things and all that but frankly I find most jewelry overpriced, especially for plastic pieces and fake diamonds). And these pieces are overpriced, that's for sure, but they are soooo pretty that you can kind of overlook that Juicy is asking $148 for a cuff (albeit a gorgeous cuff).

The color pallet of purple, gold, black, and silver and art-deco geometric shapes are what's got me goin' crazy (a la Britney) so if that's your kind of thing then go for it! Me, I'm now a poor college student, so I'll just oogle at these shiny beauties over cyberspace.

One of my favorite holidays, the 4th of July, is just around the corner. I love finding the perfect red white and blue ensemble to rock while biking to the parade, hopping from barbeque to barbeque, and watching fireworks. Here are some fabulous patriotic picks for those of you still looking for perfect Americana pieces.

What a Girl Wants

Cannot believe my eighteenth birthday is on Saturday!
A few things that are on my wishlist, because a girl can dream!

Friday, I'm In Love: Miu Miu

This Miu Miu clutch is so absolutely perfect. Most clutches are gold or black, which is so totally boring for spring, but this clutch is coral and I absolutely adore coral. The shape is sweet and flirty, too, and I kind of like how the gold at the top reminds me of an awesome mustache. The clutch is available at net-a-porter.com

Fight On!

Guess what arrived in the mail today? You have no idea how excited I am. I even wore a mustard sweater and red raw silk skirt to school today to show off how absolutely stoked I was to receive a BIG ENVELOPE from THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (aka the university of spoiled children, where I will fit in perfectly!)

Who would ever think that burgundy and gold go so well together? Certainly not I, but upon second thought I realize there are a lot of opportunities for these colors. So I scoured the internet to find some possible school-spirit-appropriate clothes, and wouldn't you know, even Proenza Schouler has hopped on the "Burgundy <3's Gold" Train. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Spring Break's Around the Bend

Guess who's going to college! THIS GIRL!

And maybe because I've got university on the brain I turn to a coveted collegiate tradition: Spring Break. Of course high schools have breaks in the springtime as well, but there seems to be something almost magical about having to take a break from college, which seems so otherworldly and sophisticated right now, but I know is basically just like high school with new people (or not, if I end up going to UCSB, because that is like my high school 2.0)

Well, whatever age you are, whatever you are taking a springtime break from, let's celebrate with some fabulous vacation wardrobes full of sunshine-ready clothes! I've got Palm Springs on the brain for two reasons: Indian Wells Tennis Tournament and Coachella. I wanted to go to both and can go to neither, so I will live vicariously through these two metaphorical suitcase checklists. The first one is everything preppy I would wear to a tennis tournament, and the second is my dream Coachella getup, because you know, the things you wear to Coachella are infinitely more important than the acts you see. Serving It Up

1. Make a Racquet tennis bag 2. Tennis Net anklet socks 3. Kate Spade Kissing Tennis Racquet belt 4. Hold Court Quinn tote 5. On the Ball coin purse; All Kate Spade

You can always count on Kate Spade for a healthy dose of bold colors and kitschy cute accessories. The brand's theme of the month seems to be tennis (just in time for the Indian Wells tennis tournament nearby!) and as a vaguely avid tennis enthusiast, I absolutely adore the tennis court greens and actual tennis accessories! Count on these bags being very popular in Palm Springs as the tournament heats up.

Friday, I'm In Love: Missoni

On a day like today you just don't question the fact that it is already March 9th and that spring is soon upon us. It's just so darn nice! Enjoying all this 70 degree weather has got me yearning for summer -because it feels like summer, except for that whole school thing- and naturally I'm looking for the perfect summer dress that I can wear while walking down to the beach over Spring Break. This Missoni dress has all the makings of a perfect beach dress: it's colorful, it's lightweight, and it's a freakin' Missoni! Pair with a wide-brim hat, Olsen-worthy shades, and a stellar bikini, and you're good to go!

Friday, I'm In Love: Diane Von Furstenberg

As a high school student, I often run into the dilema as to how to best carry all my needed supplies. Sure, I would love to be the girl who forgoes her binders and books for a stylish purse, but alas, the type-A in me cannot go without her organizational skills. This Diane Von Furstenberg backpack is the perfect solution to all my schoolgirl woes! The canvas is wonderful for practicality, and the vibrant yellows and modern floral print give it a cool surfer girl look.

Ah, springtime is finally upon us, and it seems that the spring fashions have gone classically spring. Pastels are the march-to-may staple and everyone from Jil Sander to Yves Saint Laurent is jumping on the sweet fifties trend. Mint, peach, and bubblegum are the biggest hits. Take your pick!

Had my prom dress from last year not been so similar to this D&G dress, I would have been so tempted to get it. I simply cannot resist a full-skirted fifties-fueled baby blue dress.

Friday, I'm in Love: Lanvin

This Lanvin Doll is one of the reasons why I adore Alber Elbaz so much. He just does fun stuff like this and it just makes me so happy. I wish I had a little sister (and $400 to spare) to give this adorable fashion doll to. And how cool is it that it is totally an Elbaz sketch come to life? I just love it.

Friday, I'm in Love: Carven

Carven cotton blend canvas jacket

Normally I am hesitant with yellow clothes, as I fear they may make me look too much like a yellow cupcake, but I love the cut of this Carven jacket. I love a good swingy box jacket. Plus, the camel piping and the curved lines really makes this jacket unique.

Relaxed Luxe

Fashion has recently learned to take itself less seriously. After the dark and minimalist streak of the fallen economy, designers have found a lightness in their work. We are able to have fun with our fashion, but there is now a certain sense of practicality infused in clothing today.

It is time to embrace this in our clothing. It is time to throw caution to the rules of fashion and embrace palazzo paints, flowy dresses, and lower heels. We are energetic, busy creatures and sometimes we need clothes that adapt to movement. Sometimes fashion and comfort do go hand in hand.

The Best Time to Wear a Striped Sweater

| comments

Sweaters are a fall staple, so why not amp your knit supply up with these handy tips for some of the coolest sweaters of the season?

Fair Isle Sweater
+
Bring your apres-ski sweater from the chalet to the streets with sleek black and edgy textures. Pair with a neon accessory like shoes or a purse to give your look a stylin' pop of color.

Oversize Knit
 +
Mix with proportions and textures by pairing an oversized knit with a form-fitting mini and leg-lengthening boots. Add a sparkly clutch if you're meeting up with friends or some old-school shades if you're cruising the town.

Embellished Cardigan
+
An embellished cardigan can go many ways, but why not amp up your winter-time evening wear with one? Pair with a maxi and sandals to get an artsy debutant look -if that makes any sense.

We Like to Party

| comments

Pumpkins are smashed on the streets. Costumes are lying on the floor in a corner. And somewhere a Starbucks is setting out their holiday cups once again. Yes, it is November First, also known as the beginning of the Holiday Season!

I know for me the holidays mean parties. From charity luncheons to gingerbread house making parties, everyone has a lot to do. But what to wear!?

Have no fear! I have plenty of tips on what to wear this holiday season!

Thanksgiving Feast
Thanksgiving is a cozy family holiday, but I always like to look somewhat put together for the feast of the year. A sweater dress or long sleeve frock in a rich hue does just the trick.

Cocktail Party
Make like tinsel and glitter it up! Be the center of attention with a sparkly mini dress and let the dress do all the talking. Pair with black accessories and you got the glam factor that will get everyone talking.

Baby, it's Cold Outside
Even a California girl like me understands that it gets chilly in the winter, so pick up a perfect coat that can function for any occasion. Black or leopard works for any event and adds sophistication to any ensemble.

Christmas Luncheon
Give that charity luncheon or office holiday party some color in one of these neon power dresses. When everyone else is wearing a pantsuit, all eyes will be on you!

Run-Around-Town Dress
The holidays are a busy time, and sometimes you need a reliable do-anything dress. Look for something long, loose, but polished (nipped at the waist or an elegant neck tie) that you can throw on as you run errands all day. These dresses are perfect because they are one-item outfits. Add some shoes and a handbag and you are ready to go!

Winter Ball

Got a black tie event this holiday season? Make it a high-drama event and go for a daring dress with a brilliant hue, an artsy print, or a daring plunge. Be sure it's a night to remember and a dress that no one will ever forget!

Have any more holiday style questions? Feel free to ask!

Think I'm In Love

| comments

You know that feeling you get when you see an extremely attractive guy, how your brain goes all fuzzy like wrackspurts are invading it and everything around you just stops? Well, I got that feeling today. Only, there was no (straight) man in sight. No, it was in the shoe department of Nordstrom where I, Lindsey, fell in love with the most beautiful pair of Miu Miu boots.

Earlier today when making my shopping list for fall I wrote in big letters: LOOK FOR TIMELESS PIECES WITH SPECIAL EMBELLISHMENTS AND DETAILS. Well, friends, I have found that piece! Shall I describe these boots to you? Black, knee-high suede boots. Two inch heel. They seem pretty nondescript at first glance. You nod at them and think, okay, these boots are alright, but nothing special.

BUT THEN...you notice the heel. Dozens of tiny clear crystals bedazzle the chunky heel. These boots, these seemingly plain boots, suddenly become extraordinary. This tiny adjustment to plain jane boots makes them magical. They are still seasonless -black, my darling, goes with everything, you know- but those tiny jewels give a perfect touch of glamour.

I am already counting the days until these bad babies go on sale. Also, the "Miu Miu Boots or Bust!" savings fund begins now.
