The Lonely Hearts Club

What I enjoy most about Valentine's Day is not the excessive romantic lovey-dovey-ness but rather the fact that I can wear as much pink as I want without being judged -not that that really stops me any other day of the year. Still, it is nice to be able to outwardly flaunt my rose-colored clothes without people gawking at me like I'm some kind of My Little Pony.

J. Crew button-down and skirt
Anthropologie sunglasses
Steve Madden boots
Ann Taylor leopard skinny belt

And because I love you, my fabulous readers so much, I have made a collection of fashion-centric Valentine's Day cards that I'm surprised Hallmark didn't already pick up! Haha. They are totally cringe-worthy (they were made on MS Paint, after all) but hopefully someone gets a good laugh out of them.

Zara Sweater
Juicy Couture Cardigan
J. Crew Shorts and Sandals
Vintage Hat

Today was a day when I pondered if going to the East Coast for school would be worth it. Let's see: seventy-seven in SoCal or thirty-seven in New England...hmm...Well, we shall see if I even get in to any East Coast schools before I start worrying about the weather.

But yes, today's outfit was inspired by watermelons. An ode to summer when January feels like summer

In sewing class we've been talking about what really inspires a designer and how the process of creating a cohesive collection begins. Mood boards are really the basis of creating an understandable collection. Like a thesis statement makes or breaks an essay, the mood board is the explanation of inspiration. We humans are visual, and so a collage-style representation if inspirational images, text, and fabrics makes it easy to explain to others what message you are trying to get across with your clothes.

So of course I spent the afternoon searching the internet for cool mood boards by various designers. Here are some of my favorite finds:

Anna Sui

Matthew Williamson

Phillip Lim

Louis Vuitton
J. Crew

Meadham Kirchhoff (Picture from Rookie)

Jason Wu
