The Girls of 2011: No. 1!

| comments

Now that we have ventured into 2012, we take one last look back on the year before us.

There were many fabulous and fashionable young starlets this year who took the world by storm with both their talents and their style...

but only one can be THE it girl of the year.

Who is it?

It's...

it's...

Emma Stone!

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, Emma Stone beat out even a princess for the title of the It Girl of 2011. It has certainly been Miss Stone's year, after all. She started off strong with a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Easy A, then went on to star in two big summer movies, The Help and Crazy, Stupid Love -with Ryan Gosling, the lucky girl! Next on the girl's plate? Starring as the love interest in the new Spiderman reboot alongside real-life beau Andrew Garfield, and then again alongside Ryan Gosling in The Gangster Squad. Emma certainly has impressed movie audiences, but it's her sleek fashion sense that grabs my attention.  She rocks a natural face and red-hot tresses and lets her clothes do most of the talking. She favors Giambattista Valli and Chanel, but whatever the girl wears is golden. Emma is not afraid to take a fashion risk, but she also knows what works for her, and that is why she has become one of my biggest style icons.

Congratulations, Emma, you've really earned it!

Princess Catherine

Who doesn't love a good fairytale with a happy ending? Kate Middleton has truly blossomed this year as the icon for every woman out there. Younger girls dream of becoming like her. Peers want to match her style. Even older women have fallen in love with the timeless style of the new princess. Princess Catherine is flawless and her easy-going outfits have inspired women everywhere. She seamlessly mixes McQueen with Topshop, proving that you don't always need three-thousand dollar jackets just to look good. And I think she just seems very down to earth, and in a world of Snookies and Kardashians, it's nice to see a girl who isn't some crazy party girl that people still look up to. Here's to a long future as princess, Catherine!

Hailee Steinfeld

It is no secret that I am obsessed with Hailee Steinfeld, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but I think I speak for a lot of people when I say she was one of the best dressed young starlets this year. There's something so fresh about her style, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks so. Hailee wowed as the star of Miu Miu's Fall 2011 campaign and has been praised for her sense of style. She also received a huge nod in the acting category when she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in True Grit. Hailee has some serious skills and a wonderful personality. I cannot wait to see her more this next year.

Florence Welch

I've been a fan of the flame-haired singer since I first heard "Dog Days are Over" in 2008, so it's nice to see Florence + the Machine become so successful, especially given the fact that they possess true originality- a rare occurrence in the music business these days. But beyond Florence's vocal chords, this girl has true talent in the realm of style. Just like her music, Florence prefers an ethereal, gothic, fairytale-like feel. She wore Fall 2011 Gucci dresses on tour this summer and preformed during the Spring 2012 Chanel runway show this past October. Anyone who is in with Karl is most certainly an It Girl. With the success of the Machine's second album, Ceremonials, it's safe to say Florence and her crimson curls are here to stay.

Lily Collins

It seems fairy tales are the new thing in movies. With the success of last year's Tangled and Alice in Wonderland, movie studios are all over revamping classic fables and folktales. Most notably, two -that's right, two- different Snow White movies are premiering in 2012. One stars a warrior-princess-like Kristen Stewart (blah) but the other one features the lovely Lily Collins. Daughter of Genesis front man Phil Collins, Lily has certainly made a name for herself. She started out as a correspondent on Nickelodeon but where she really caught my eye was at the famed Crillon Ball where she wore the most lovely Chanel couture gown. Then she played the daughter in inspirational movie The Blind Side and the Taylor Lautner's love interest in Abduction and I knew Lily and her gorgeous eyebrows were here to stay.

Jennifer Lawrence

With the Harry Potter films over (sad) and the end of the Twilight films fast approaching (not sad) it is certainly time for a new book-turned-series to obsess about. Oh, wait. You mean they already planned that? Those Hollywood folks, so smart. But yes, in case you live under a rock, the latest sure-to-be smash trilogy of films, The Hunger Games is due out next March, and one of the hottest young starlets around, Jennifer Lawrence, stars as the protagonist Katniss. But this isn't Jennifer's first big movie. Last year she got an Oscar nod for her role in Winter's Bone, and this summer she played a young Mystique in X-Men: First Class. Jennifer's still very young and already very successful, and if The Hunger Games is nearly as big as the hype suggests, we will be seeing a lot more of Miss Lawrence.
