fancy footwear

Minimalism has come and gone (thank goodness) so that extravagant fashions can once again reign supreme. Fall has given us plenty of baroque-inspired glitz and glamour, and even accessories are wildly whimsical. For the woman who likes a statement piece to be on her feet, here are some insanely elaborate shoes seen this fall.

Meadham Kirchhoff might have succeeded in creating the frilliest, most glittery flatforms in the history of the universe. Blush pink ruffles, rainbow glitter, and a furry pink pompom give this shoe its decadent look.

Tennis shoe heels are popping up on every street style sight, but these Giuseppe Zanotti sneaks may be the brightest of the set. For the spotlight lover who wants to add a little athleticism to her wardrobe- just don't try running in these babies.

Looking for a literal translation of the Greek flat sandal? Try these winged flats by aptly-named Ancient Greek Sandals if you are looking to impress Hermes (the messenger of the Gods, not the luxury French brand, though I'm sure they would get a kick out of these shoes as well!).

Prada is no stranger to the fabulous shoe, and fall's statement piece is no exception. This season's heel comes with a signature curvy heel and plenty of mix-and-match embellishments that will have any foot feeling extremely fancy.

More Marie Antoinette chandelier or Laduree cake than shoe, this Dolce & Gabbana masterpiece is perhaps my favorite shoe of the season. Truly a work of art, this high, high heel comes in both blue and white, both versions lined in gold paint and adorned with tiny pink glass flowers. Sweet and fabulous all at once, this is a truly Great Shoe.

What is your favorite shoe from Fall 2012 collections?

There is something distinctly native about the looks of Spring. The retro fifties styles do conjure images of one of America's golden decades. We had just won our second World War and had emerged as a world superpower, so I guess the people of the States were feeling pretty good about themselves. And how does one celebrate? Why, by donning pearls, curling hair, and hopping in a vibrant T-bird, of course! More than fifty years after the fact, the fifties still have plenty of lure. For spring, everyone from Prada to Juicy Couture is amping up the saturation, nipping the waist, and rouge-ing the lips. See for yourself, retro is back!

Christmastime always brings loads of perfume and fashion videos. I wish fashion videos would get more recognition, because they are way more creative than most other commercial videos. Here are some of my recent favorites:

"Shade Parade" by Chanel

"Prada Candy" by Prada

"J'adore Dior" by Dior

"Portrait of Hailee" by Miu Miu

Lanvin

Versace for H&M

Alice + Olivia

"Valentina" by Valentino

(all videos not mine, I'm just sharing them)

And they're off!

Prada brought me back to the drag race scene at the end of Grease, but the season's girl was more of a Sandy sitting on the sidelines than Cha Cha waving her scarf. The looks were sweet and ladylike but standing on the edge of a cliff. Models wore coats that amlost covered their bared midriffs. A sleek, modest blouse and skirt combo came in leather. Candy colored skirts were dipped in fiery flames.

Where Miuccia really killed it, though, was in the to-die-for accessories: shoes with leather cut-out flames on the heels; oversized clutches with cartoon cars; rosette earrings dripping with jewels. As always Prada will be an editor favorite, and I really enjoy that both young and old fashionaphiles alike will be able to rock this collection.

One thing that I love about Prada is how it integrates art and fashion. Very few designers actually take their fashion to the artistic level that Prada does, and every season I look forward to Prada's Fantasy lookbooks. I really wish more people would do stuff like this. The end result is so cool.

Here are some of my favorite images:
