how does one pack up one's own life?

| comments

This is half of my closet. Only half. And somehow I have to bring it all to college in two days and jam everything into a cramped dorm closet. I'm told that I need to choose, choose what articles I find most important, most neccessary for my survival at school.

But how does one choose? I love every single item of clothing that hangs from this closet. That's why I have these pieces! Because I love them so!

Packing in general is very stressful.

Summer equals endless amounts of free time, and I plan to use each and every minute of the approximately 68 days I have left until move-in day wisely. As nice as vegging out is for a day or two, I get upset if I go too long without productivity. And my, what a productive first full week of summer it has been!

Above, the unfinished bodice to my newest project, the Sally dress. I found this fabric a while back in LA and I love the nautical stripes with flamingo pink. The original plan for this dress was to have a double-breasted design -you might notice in the above picture that one side of the bodice actually overlaps the other- but the row of buttons down the middle looked so perfect that I decided to go in that direction. Funny how things change from illustration to pattern to sewn piece.

Below, the finished result. Gathered skirt with a one-inch band at the bottom to give the skirt some more weight. I went with three buttons -even numbers are always nice! Now all I need to do is sew on the zipper and I'll have a brand new summer frock!

What productive -or not productive- things have you done this summer?

Me and a fellow future Trojan fighting on for College T-Shirt Day

Today was "College T-Shirt Day" at school and it was so much fun to see everyone repping their college gear. I'm one of those people who just gets really excited for other peoples' successes. Also notice how I turned my simple shirt into a fabulous ensemble (Though I really need to invest in some burgundy and gold sunglasses like my comrade here) BUT today was also a great day for me because USC MOVED MY ADMISSION TO THE FALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At first I was admitted as a spring student, which is cool but dude, now I'll be going to college along with EVERYONE ELSE and I am SO EXCITED!

Yeah, college! FIGHT ON!

Anthropologie "Carolinae" Top purchased in Pasadena this weekend
American Eagle Outfitters Camisole
Paige Premium Denim straight-leg Jeans
Steve Madden buckle gladiator Sandals

Hope you all had a lovely Presidents' Day weekend! I know I did, because I got to spend the day with my mommy in beautiful Pasadena. We checked out the Barney's Warehouse Sale (which was pretty picked over, but she found a great dress and now I know to go the very first day), bought some new fabrics in the garment district, and found a few great things at Anthro. And then we got to stay at this fabulous hotel for the night:
The Langham Huntington Hotel was beautiful and built in the twenties and best of all, full of pink! I had to nab a few of the pens from our room because they were just too adorable.

I had such a lovely time and I cannot wait for my grandmother to find a place in Pasadena this spring because that means I'll get to head up there a lot more often!

Also, look how cool these fabrics are that I picked up! I cannot wait to make shorts and skirts and dresses and more with them!

How was everyone else's long weekend?
