Hope you all had a lovely Presidents' Day weekend! I know I did, because I got to spend the day with my mommy in beautiful Pasadena. We checked out the Barney's Warehouse Sale (which was pretty picked over, but she found a great dress and now I know to go the very first day), bought some new fabrics in the garment district, and found a few great things at Anthro. And then we got to stay at this fabulous hotel for the night:
The Langham Huntington Hotel was beautiful and built in the twenties and best of all, full of pink! I had to nab a few of the pens from our room because they were just too adorable.
I had such a lovely time and I cannot wait for my grandmother to find a place in Pasadena this spring because that means I'll get to head up there a lot more often!
Also, look how cool these fabrics are that I picked up! I cannot wait to make shorts and skirts and dresses and more with them!

What I enjoy most about Valentine's Day is not the excessive romantic lovey-dovey-ness but rather the fact that I can wear as much pink as I want without being judged -not that that really stops me any other day of the year. Still, it is nice to be able to outwardly flaunt my rose-colored clothes without people gawking at me like I'm some kind of My Little Pony.
And because I love you, my fabulous readers so much, I have made a collection of fashion-centric Valentine's Day cards that I'm surprised Hallmark didn't already pick up! Haha. They are totally cringe-worthy (they were made on MS Paint, after all) but hopefully someone gets a good laugh out of them.

Today has been quite the lovely day for me! Still seventy and sunny here in coastal California, I've been making the most of the great weather and showing off all my fashionable Christmas gifts. Today I decided to wear this dress I made for two reasons:
- I had an interview with a Brown University alumni and wanted to show off my favorite dress I've made; and
- The yearbook staff was taking pictures of all the senior standouts, and yours truly won "Best Dressed"!
With applications winding down and finals preparation revving up, it's been hard for me to catch my breath lately, so I apologize for the lack of blogging recently, but I promise I am doing my best! I hope all is well with those who are not so fortunate as to live in sunny California and if all goes as well as I thought my interview did, I may be joining you East Coasters next year in the snow and rain!

This is perhaps my favorite dress ever. It has flowers, the corseted top makes my waist look like half as big, and the petticoat underneath gives it some extra poof. And of course you can wear it everywhere.

What I wore on Monday. For as much Anthropologie as I have in my wardrobe (and in that picture) I really haven't gone there in a while. I haven't been shopping, really, in a while. I know, ridiculous. But I've been thinking about all the people doing the 30 for 30 challenge and while I don't think I could manage that, I have started to think about our roles as consumers and all that. Of course, for the fashion industry to thrive, there must be consumers, but there should be a balance. I'm trying to work with what I have, think about my clothes in new ways, and make more of my own clothing rather than buying it all. And when I do buy more things, I want to make sure they are worthwhile, not just trendy.
