Style Crush: Emma Stone

Hot off freaking about Stone's latest silver-screen persona, I have turned to the woman behind Gwen Stacy and her exquisite red carpet style. The Amazing Spiderman tour has been long (they've been promoting this thing since April, it feels like!) but that has given dear Emma plenty of opportunities to knock our Wolford socks off with her red carpet choices! From sweet Chanel frocks to vampy Gucci goddess gowns, Emma Stone has proven that she is as sartorially inspirational as she is personality-wise. Honestly, the girl has got it all! Who knows, maybe she may win the title of It Girl for the second year in a row!

The Amazing Gwen Stacy!

If you've already seen The Amazing Spiderman (which I have -twice) then your girl crush on leading lady Emma Stone has probably grown exponentially to a size you couldn't have even believed to have been possible (same with your crush on Andrew Garfield, whose adorable awkwardness as the "dorky" Peter Parker made me question why in the world anyone would have picked Tobey McGuire -sorry, buddy, but Andrew Garfield looks way better in that Spidey suit, if ya know what I'm sayin'). Back to my point: Stone stars alongside Garfield as Gwen Stacy, the top student in their class, head intern to Dr. Curt Connors at Oscorp, and daughter to New York's Chief of Police. Unlike Mary Jane, Gwen is much more Peter's equal. She makes life-saving antidotes and protects the employees of Oscorp when Dr. Connors has a bit of a melt down. She even goes after the bad guy before Peter can show up and sometimes she saves Spiderman! Hooray for not being a damsel in distress!

Super awesome girl power aside, Gwen has a fantastic wardrobe, which I love because yay for being smart, stylish, and BLONDE! Like, she is breakin' all the stereotypes! Gwen really likes knit dresses and tall boots when she's at school or interning at Oscorp (a lab coat never worked so well with an outfit) and when she's at home she loves cozy sweaters and flouncy plaid skirts. Everything is very neat, very clean, and very chic.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards: Red Carpet Recap

This evening seemed to be all about nostalgia. And it seemed fitting, too, given the year of movies we've had. The Artist, My Week with Marilyn, and Hugo were all about the golden age of film and the beauty of the silver screen. Midnight in Paris dealt with our nostalgic dreams for our own personal "golden age." The Help was retro fun at its best. In an era where CGI and 3D reign supreme, it's nice to be reminded that the true gems of Hollywood are the beautiful, simple movies that tell a beautiful story.

Regardless of who wins the big awards, we know what really matters: who wins best dressed! The starlets were out in full force this afternoon on the red carpet, and there were some huge hits. Glitz and glimmer seemed to dominate the carpet, and many celebs chose whites and nudes. One shoulders were also frequently seen. Here are some of my favorites of the night:

The Girls of 2011: No. 1!

Now that we have ventured into 2012, we take one last look back on the year before us.

There were many fabulous and fashionable young starlets this year who took the world by storm with both their talents and their style...

but only one can be THE it girl of the year.

Who is it?

Emma Stone!

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, Emma Stone beat out even a princess for the title of the It Girl of 2011. It has certainly been Miss Stone's year, after all. She started off strong with a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Easy A, then went on to star in two big summer movies, The Help and Crazy, Stupid Love -with Ryan Gosling, the lucky girl! Next on the girl's plate? Starring as the love interest in the new Spiderman reboot alongside real-life beau Andrew Garfield, and then again alongside Ryan Gosling in The Gangster Squad. Emma certainly has impressed movie audiences, but it's her sleek fashion sense that grabs my attention.  She rocks a natural face and red-hot tresses and lets her clothes do most of the talking. She favors Giambattista Valli and Chanel, but whatever the girl wears is golden. Emma is not afraid to take a fashion risk, but she also knows what works for her, and that is why she has become one of my biggest style icons. 

Congratulations, Emma, you've really earned it!

Heading South

Last night my mommy and I saw The Help and I was most pleasantly surprised. It was an extremely entertaining movie with plenty of moments of laughter and sadness as the tale of two black maids from Jackson, Mississippi, unfolds. Emma Stone was good, but even more phenomenal was the exceptionally wicked Hilly, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, and Minny (Octavia Spencer), one of the hilariously sassy maids that confesses her stories to Stone's Skeeter. It was just a very well-done movie that I hope earns many awards because, for me, at least, it had it all.

Of course, a movie about the South in the sixties can only be so good without tremendous costumes and scenery. I feel this is where The Help pleased me the most, as the costumes were all outstanding. It has made me even more anxious to finish the sixties-inspired shirtdress I'm working on, and I feel confident with my recent purchase of pink-with-white-polka-dots cat-eye sunglasses now (even though my friend says I look "ridiculous").
